एक बार एक देश में अकाल पड़ा। लोग भूखों मरने लगे। नगर में एक धनी दयालु पुरुष थे। उन्होंने सब छोटे बच्चों को प्रतिदिन एक रोटी देने की घोषणा कर दी। दूसरे दिन सबेरे बगीचे में सब बच्चे इकट्ठे हुए। उन्हें रोटियाँ बँटने लगीं। रोटियाँ छोटी- बड़ी थीं। सब बच्चे एक- दूसरे को धक्का देकर बड़ी रोटी पाने का प्रयत्न कर रहे थे। केवल एक छोटी लड़की एक ओर चुपचाप खड़ी थी। वह सबसे अन्त में आगे बढ़ी। टोकरे में सबसे छोटी अन्तिम रोटी बची थी। उसने उसे प्रसन्नता से ले लिया और वह घर चली गयी। दूसरे दिन फिर रोटियाँ बाँटी गयीं। उस लड़की को आज भी सबसे छोटी रोटी मिली। लड़की ने जब घर लौट कर रोटी तोड़ी तो रोटी में से सोने की एक मुहर निकली। उसकी माता ने कहा कि- मुहरउस धनी को दे आओ। लड़की दौड़ी -दौड़ी धनी के घर गयी। धनी ने उसे देखकर पूछा- तुम क्यों आयी हो? लड़की ने कहा- मेरी रोटी में यह मुहर निकली है। आटे में गिर गयी होगी। देने आयी हूँ। आप अपनी मुहर ले लें। धनी बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ। उसने उसे अपनी धर्मपुत्री बना लिया और उसकी माता के लिये मासिक वेतन निश्चित कर दिया। बड़ी होने पर वही लड़की उस धनी की उत्तराधिकारिणी बनी।

English Translation

Once there was a famine in one country. People began to die of hunger. There was a rich man in the city. They announced a roti every day to all small children. On the second day all the kids were gathered in the garden. They started sharing roti. The loaves were small and large. All the children were pushing each other and trying to get big bread. Only a little girl stood quietly on one side. She went ahead in the end. The smallest remaining bread was left in the crate. She took it with pleasure and she went home. On the second day the loaves were distributed. The girl got the smallest bread even today. When the girl returned home after breaking the bread, she got a stamp of gold from the roti. His mother said that – Give the Muharus to the rich. The girl ran, the couple went to the house of the rich. The rich looked at him and asked- Why have you come? The girl said – this stamp has emerged in my roti. Will fall into the dough. I have come to give Take your seal. The rich was very pleased. He made him his priest and fixed his monthly salary for his mother. The girl became the heiress of that wealthy when she grew up.
